A clip at each end and rings along the rope turn one leash into three, worn over a shoulder, around the waist, or held in hand. It is the same 100 percent cotton rope as the handheld range, cut longer.
Both Hands Free, Same Rope
The point of the design is that nothing about the rope changes. It is still hand spliced cotton with whipped ends; what differs is that both ends carry a clip and the O rings let you close the rope into a loop of whatever size you need.
Three Ways To Wear It
Clip it into a long loop across the body and the dog walks at your hip. Take the loop shorter and it sits on the waist for running. Leave both clips apart and it works as an ordinary lead. Nothing needs to be re-threaded to move between them.
Why The Extra Length Exists
Worn across the body, a leash loses roughly the length of your torso to the loop itself. This one is cut long enough that there is usable rope left after that, where a standard lead would put the dog against your leg.
Weight You Stop Noticing
Weight matters on a leash you are wearing rather than holding, because it hangs off one shoulder for the whole walk. This rope is light enough that what you feel over an hour is the dog, not the leash.
Hands-Free Leash Figures
| Measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| Total length | 6.9 feet |
| Weight | 215 grams |
| Rope thickness | 3/5 inch |
| Rope | 100 percent cotton, natural dye |
| Fittings | A clip at each end, O rings along the rope |
This Is Not A Training Leash
Hands free means the dog is attached to you rather than to your grip, which is wrong for a dog that still lunges: you cannot drop it. Work the pulling out on a handheld lead first. Cotton also holds water, so a swimming dog leaves you wearing a wet rope.
Keeping A Long Rope Clean
A leash worn on the body picks up more than one carried in the hand. Hand wash in mild soap and cool water, line dry fully before it goes back on, and never put it through a machine.
Hands-Free Leash Questions
Does the weight pull on the shoulder over a long walk? It is light enough that the weight you notice is the dog rather than the rope.
Can it be used as a normal handheld leash? Yes. Leave the two clips unjoined and it works as a standard lead.
Is it suitable for running? The maker's own carry diagram shows waist wear, which is the configuration runners use.
