Royal Violet is the deepest color in this rope range, and depth is the point: a saturated dye hides the road dust that shows on pale ropes within a week. Leash and collar match, both 100 percent hand woven cotton, both closed in solid brass.
A Violet That Holds Up Outdoors
Pale rope looks best on the day it arrives. A dark violet carries dirt without showing it, which is the practical reason to pick this end of the range if your walks involve mud, gravel or a dog that likes to drag the leash. The color is dyed by hand into the fiber, so it wears rather than chips.
Spliced And Whipped, Not Glued
The rope end is spliced back into itself and whipped with thread. That is the traditional marine finish, and it matters because a glued or crimped end is a single point that lets go all at once. A splice degrades slowly and visibly, so you get warning.
Brass At Both Ends
A solid brass trigger snap clips to the collar and a brass O ring sits at the handle for waste bags or keys. Solid brass is heavier than plated steel of the same size, which you feel in the hand, and it has no coating to wear off at the hinge.
Sizing The Violet Collar
The maker's own warning is worth repeating: these collars run small. Measure the neck with a soft tape, allow two fingers of room, and choose from the measured figure rather than from the size your dog usually wears.
| Size | Neck fits |
|---|---|
| Small | 15 to 18 inches |
| Medium | 17 to 21 inches |
| Large | 20 to 24 inches |
One leash length, finished at 5 to 6 feet.
Two Cases Where This Is Not The Right Set
Cotton absorbs water and dries slowly, so a dog that swims most days will be handing you a wet rope every time. And a dog that chews the leash while walking will get through cotton faster than through coated nylon. Necks measuring under 15 inches fall below the smallest collar.
Care That Protects The Dye
Hand wash in mild soap and cool water, line dry, and keep it out of a machine. Direct sun over months will lift any hand dyed color, violet included. Brass takes mild soap and water, or a lemon juice and baking soda paste.
Royal Violet Set Questions
Why was this sold under a leather name? The range name says leather, but the rope itself is 100 percent hand woven cotton.
Does brass rust if the leash gets rained on? No. Brass does not rust. It darkens instead, and mild soap or a lemon juice paste takes it back.
Can a rope leash be cut shorter? Not without removing the spliced end, which is the part carrying the load. It arrives at its finished length.
