Two starfish on wet sand at the shoreline, painted across the wide twenty-four by thirty-six inch mat. Coastal artwork at a scale you can actually see from the drive.
Why The Wide Format Suits It
- A shoreline needs width. A horizon compresses badly on a small mat. Three feet of felt lets the sand, the water and the headland each have room.
- Sliding doors are wide. Beach houses and sunrooms tend to have wide openings, and this covers the full sweep rather than sitting under one half.
- Sand brushes straight off. Dry grit lifts from felt with a broom, which matters more here than anywhere else.
Where It Belongs
This is the mat for a deck door, a screened porch, or the entry from a pool. Anywhere sand and water arrive together.
At roughly a quarter of an inch it clears a sliding track without fouling the runner.
Cleaning Takes Two Minutes
- Do hose it, or use a power washer
- Do sweep it with a broom for dry dirt
- Do vacuum on the floor setting
- Do spot clean with a mild cleaner
- Skip anything that foams heavily, since the residue holds new dirt
- Skip the stiff brush, which lifts the nap
- Skip the carpet setting on the vacuum, built to pull pile up
- Skip bleach entirely
Salt Is The Real Enemy
Sea air is fine. What shortens a felt mat near the coast is salt left in the fibers after spray or a wet swimsuit.
Fresh water every few weeks clears it out. Salt left behind crystallizes as it dries and stiffens the fibers.
Worth knowing: rinse the rubber side as well as the felt. On damp stone the underside grows a green film that never shows until you lift the mat.
Questions About The Starfish Mat
Can it sit outside a pool gate?
Yes, and it handles wet feet well. Give it fresh water regularly, because pool chemistry sitting in felt is harder on the fibers than rain.
Does the pale sand area stay clean?
Pale felt asks for attention sooner than dark felt does. In exchange, dirt releases from a light dyed ground quickly rather than settling in.
Will it fit a standard sliding door?
Three feet covers most single-panel sliders with a margin. Measure the fixed panel too if you want it centered on the whole opening.
Is the felt slippery when wet?
The felt itself gets damp rather than slick, and the stamped rubber underneath is what stops movement. It grips wet tile better than a woven mat does.
