A peacock in profile beside pink blossoms, painted in loose watercolor washes across an eighteen by twenty-seven inch mat. Softer than most entrance artwork.
Why Watercolor Suits Felt
- Soft edges age gracefully. A wash has no hard line to break down, so wear reads as part of the painting rather than as damage.
- Pale ground, deep subject. The contrast between cream sky and blue bird is what carries the image from a distance.
- Dye in the fiber. The picture is part of the felt, not a layer resting on it.
Where Soft Artwork Works
This one belongs somewhere calm. A hallway, a sunroom, a covered front step with painted boards rather than a busy tiled porch.
The format leaves clear felt on either side of a standard door frame.
Cleaning Takes Two Minutes
Pale grounds need rinsing sooner than dark ones, not harder. Pressure and water do it; scrubbing does not.
- Do hose it, or use a power washer
- Do sweep it with a broom for dry dirt
- Do vacuum on the floor setting
- Do spot clean with a mild cleaner
- Skip anything that foams heavily, since the residue holds new dirt
- Skip the stiff brush, which lifts the nap
- Skip the carpet setting on the vacuum, built to pull pile up
- Skip bleach entirely
Made In Alabama
These mats are designed, manufactured and printed in the United States, and the dyeing happens at the company's own facility in Mobile, Alabama.
That matters here more than on a bold design. Consistent dye control is what keeps a pale wash from going patchy across a large flat area.
Shelter Keeps It Soft
The pale areas are where sun shows first, going flat rather than yellow. A covered position keeps the washes reading as washes.
Worth knowing: stand it on edge to dry rather than laying it flat. Water drains out of felt far faster vertically, and a pale ground dries without a water line.
Questions About This Watercolor Mat
Is the pale background impractical for a front door?
It needs rinsing more often than a dark mat, but nothing more than that. Under cover, and with a rinse every few weeks, it stays clean.
Do the blossoms show clearly at a distance?
They read as soft pink shapes from across a room and resolve into detail up close, which is how the painting was composed.
Can I put it in a bathroom?
Yes. The rubber base grips tile well and the felt handles damp, though it should be allowed to dry rather than staying wet.
Does the artwork wrap the edges?
No. The dyed image sits within the black binding tape, which frames all four sides.
