A Boston Terrier across three feet of doormat. If you own the breed, the size is doing more work here than the picture is.
Made For A Dog Household
- Wet paws stop here. Dense felt takes the moisture out of paw prints instead of letting them travel across your floor behind the dog.
- Nails do not catch. A flat felt surface has nothing for a claw to hook, unlike looped or braided mats.
- Full stride, not two steps. Thirty-six inches gives a dog room to actually dry off on the way in.
How It Is Built
Polyester felt on top with the terrier dyed into the fibers at the maker's own facility in Mobile, Alabama. Stability layers underneath stop it rippling.
The rubber base is stamped rather than smooth, so it grips when someone steps hard on the leading edge. Binding tape runs round all four sides.
Is This The Right Size
Twenty-four by thirty-six is the wide format, sized for double doors, French doors, a broad porch step, or a garage entry.
On a standard thirty-six inch single door it will overhang both sides. That reads as deliberate on a wide porch and cramped in a narrow hall.
Cleaning Takes Two Minutes
Dry dirt comes off with a broom. Wet dirt comes off with a hose, and thumb pressure on the end beats sheer volume every time.
- Do use a garden hose or a power washer
- Do sweep with a broom between washes
- Do vacuum on the floor setting
- Do treat one-off marks with a mild cleaner and a cloth
- Skip heavy foaming cleaners; residue attracts dirt
- Skip stiff bristles, which raise the nap permanently
- Skip the vacuum's carpet setting
- Skip bleach, which strips dyed color for good
Pick A Sheltered Spot
The maker's own advice is to keep these mats under cover, and it is worth taking. A roofed porch or a recessed entry holds the color at full strength.
Fully exposed to summer sun and winter rain the mat still does its job, but the image softens much faster than it would under the eaves.
Worth knowing: lift it every few weeks. Moisture trapped between rubber and floor is what discolors the surface underneath, and an hour of air prevents it.
Questions About This Terrier Mat
Is twenty-four by thirty-six too large for a single door?
It will overhang a standard door frame on both sides. Whether that reads as generous or as too much depends on what surrounds the door, so measure the clear floor space rather than the door opening.
Does the artwork show a specific coat pattern?
It shows a Boston Terrier rendered by one of the company's own artists. Individual dogs vary, so treat it as artwork of the breed rather than a portrait of any particular dog.
How long does it take to dry after hosing?
Felt holds water, so allow several hours in moving air. Standing it on edge against a wall drains it far faster than leaving it flat.
Can I use bleach on a stubborn stain?
No. Bleach strips dyed color out of the felt permanently and will leave a pale patch that cannot be corrected. A mild cleaner and patience is the only safe route.
