A tank is the hardest garment in this range to print without breaking the image, because the armhole is a deep curve and the shoulder is narrow: there is very little flat area for a design to sit in. Printing the cloth first is what solves it.

The Armhole Is Where Printed Tanks Fail

• A curve cannot be printed after assembly. A press needs a flat surface, so a tank printed as a finished garment carries its design only on the small rectangle between the armholes.
• Here the painting reaches the edge. Because the panel is printed flat and cut afterwards, the artwork runs right into the armhole curve and over the shoulder.
• Hand-sewing keeps the meeting close. Each piece is cut and joined individually, so the design continues across a seam rather than stopping at one.

Sottosopra On A Different Garment

Sottosopra means upside down, and the painting has no fixed top or bottom, which suits a tank better than it suits most shapes: with so little vertical space, a design that does not depend on orientation loses nothing to the cut. 95% polyester with 5% elastane, composition varying by up to 1%, at 6.19 oz per square yard, weight varying by up to 5%.

Care On A Light Stretch Knit

Cool wash, no dryer. Heat is what damages elastane, not detergent, so a hot tumble dry is the one thing that will shorten the life of the stretch and let the armholes go slack.

The palette already covers a cool and a warm note, so nothing below needs to add a third. Black, white, stone and indigo. Layering it under an open shirt works precisely because the print reaches the shoulder rather than stopping in a central panel.

Printing, Stretch And Sizing

Does the print really go over the shoulder? Yes. The cloth is printed before cutting, so the artwork covers the shoulder and the back rather than sitting in a panel on the chest.

Will the stretch go out of it? Not with cool washing and air drying. Elastane loses recovery through heat, so keeping it out of the dryer is the whole maintenance requirement.

Should I size up? No. Relaxed cut, recovering fabric, so the table reads true. Sizing up widens the armhole rather than adding useful room.
