Macaron is four pastels running into each other on a single length of rope, dyed by hand so the shifts are soft rather than striped. Leash and collar match, both 100 percent cotton, both finished in solid brass.

Four Pastels On A Single Length

The colors are laid into the fiber by hand, one after another, which is why the transitions blur instead of butting up against each other. Dye reaches the core of the cotton, so where the rope scuffs on pavement it shows as wear rather than as a stripe of bare white.

Cotton That Softens Rather Than Stiffens

This is 100 percent hand woven cotton rope, and it behaves the opposite way to coated nylon: it loosens and softens with handling instead of setting into a stiff curve. The working end is spliced and whipped, so the strands are locked into each other rather than held by a glued sleeve that can let go without warning.

Solid Brass Trigger Snap And Ring

The snap is solid brass, not plated. Plating always fails first at the pivot, which is the part carrying the dog. Brass has nothing to lose there, so it ages to a patina you can polish back. A brass O ring at the handle takes waste bags, keys or a light.

Macaron Collar Sizing

The maker's own warning is worth repeating: these collars run small. Measure the neck with a soft tape, allow two fingers of room, and choose from the measured figure rather than from the size your dog usually wears.

Collar neck fit for the Macaron cotton rope collar
Size Neck fits
Small 12 to 16 inches
Medium 16 to 20 inches
Large 20 to 26 inches

The leash is one length, finished at 5 to 6 feet.

Not Built For Water Or Chewers

Pastels show dirt sooner than a dark rope, and cotton holds water for hours, so a dog that swims on most walks is better served by something synthetic. A dog that chews the leash while it is clipped on will also get through cotton faster than through coated webbing.

Washing Pastels Without Muddying Them

Hand wash in mild soap and cool water and line dry. Pastels are the shades that suffer most in a machine, where agitation and heat pull the tones together into one flat color. Brass cleans with mild soap and water or a lemon juice and baking soda paste.

Macaron Set Questions

The old name said leather, so what is the rope? 100 percent cotton, hand woven and hand dyed. The word leather in the range name never described the rope.

Will the pastels look the same on every rope? No. Hand dyeing moves the color boundaries on each length, so yours will be its own arrangement.

What if my dog measures between two collar sizes? Take the larger one. These collars are cut small, so the gap between sizes closes from below.
