A sweater dress is a sweater that decided to finish the outfit for you. The Aura is a taupe cable knit sweater dress with dropped shoulders, a crew neck, long sleeves with ribbed cuffs, and a loose body covered in diamond and rope cables that ends above the knee.

  • Taupe as a neutral. A warm gray-beige that pairs with black, brown and cream.
  • Loose and easy. Dropped shoulders and a relaxed body slide over layers.

How to Wear a Sweater Dress

How to wear a sweater dress comes down to proportion. A loose, knee-skimming knit like this one wants either sleek legs or tall boots: opaque tights with ankle boots, or bare legs with knee boots once the weather allows. Both keep the lower half slim so the cables can be the volume in the outfit.

A belt is optional. Cinched at the waist with a wide brown belt, the dress takes on an hourglass shape; left loose, it is a relaxed weekend piece that pairs with sneakers.

Ankle Boots and Tall Boots

Ankle boots work best when the strip of leg showing above the boot looks intentional. Tights in brown, black or taupe close that gap and make the outfit feel finished. Knee boots in suede or smooth leather reach toward the hem and give the dress a polished look for dinner or the office.

Being halfway between gray and brown, taupe suits both black boots and cognac ones. Gold earrings with a camel bag warm it up; silver and black cool it down.

Polyester Cables and Care

The knit is 100% polyester, which holds the cable pattern crisp and keeps the color steady. Knits can stretch when hung wet, so wash on cold in a mesh bag, then dry it flat and reshape the shoulders and hem by hand. It comes in women's S (4/6), M (8/10), L (12/14) and XL (16/18), so a size 10 orders the M and a 14 orders the L. The body is roomy and the shoulders are dropped, so your normal size reproduces the slouchy fit in the photos.

Taupe Cable Sweater Dress Season
