Denim, ruffles and a bit of corset seaming: this one takes jeans-and-a-tee energy to a party. The Celia is a denim mini dress in an acid wash with a ruffle-edged square neck, puff short sleeves, bustier-style seams through the bodice, a tie across an open back above the zipper, and a skirt that flares from the waist.

  • Bustier seams. Curved panels shape the bodice like a corset, without the boning.
  • Open tie back. A tie closes the top of the back over a small opening.
  • A little stretch. 1.5% elastane in the cotton denim lets it move with you.

A Denim Mini Dress with Structure

Most denim mini dresses are shirt dresses or pinafores. This one is shaped. The seams curve in at the waist and out over the bust, and the skirt flares from there, so the dress builds an hourglass outline on its own before you add a belt or a single accessory. The puff sleeves and the ruffle at the square neck soften the denim and make it feel feminine rather than workwear.

The acid wash gives the fabric a mottled light and dark blue surface, the look denim gets after years of wear, so new scuffs blend right in.

Washing Acid Wash Denim

The fabric is 71% cotton, 27.5% polyester and 1.5% elastane. Wash it cold and inside out with dark colors, especially the first few times, since denim dye can transfer to lighter clothes and to pale bags or seats. Hang it to dry. High dryer heat breaks down elastane over time, which is what makes stretch denim lose its snap.

It comes in women's S (4/6), M (8/10), L (12/14) and XL (16/18), so a size 10 orders the M and a 14 orders the L. The bodice is shaped and zips at the back, so choose by your bust and waist, and size up if you fall between two.

Back Ties and Bra Choice

The open back sits high between the shoulder blades, and a standard bra band may show through it. A low-back bra, a bandeau or a stick-on style keeps the back clean. The tie itself is adjustable, so you can pull the back a little closer or let it sit loose.

Acid Wash Denim Mini Plans
