Product Type: Maxi Dress

This floral is the one to wear when the evening involves a patio and a long dinner. The Kaitlyn is a maxi dress in pink, red and orange flowers scattered over a white ground. It has a V-neck, short flutter sleeves, a stretchy smocked waist, a tiered skirt and pockets, cut from a viscose blend that drapes rather than floats.

  • Smocking at the waist. The stretch sits right at the waist, where most dresses pinch.
  • Flutter sleeves. Short, loose sleeves shade the shoulder and move with you.
  • Weight that hangs. Viscose falls straight and stays down in a breeze.

Sizing a Smocked Waist

A smocked waist changes how you choose a size. The smocking stretches well past its resting width around the middle, so it is not the waist that decides the fit; it is the bust and shoulders above it. Measure your bust and choose by that, and the waist will follow. Torn between two sizes, with narrow shoulders? Take the smaller one for the neater V-neck.

It comes in women's S (4/6), M (8/10), L (12/14) and XL (16/18), so a size 10 orders the M and a 14 orders the L.

Viscose Hangs, It Does Not Float

The fabric is mostly viscose with a share of polyamide. Viscose is heavier and more fluid than the polyester many summer maxis use, so the skirt hangs in soft folds instead of puffing out. In practice that means it stays put on a windy terrace and moves gracefully when you walk, and it feels cool against the skin on a warm night.

The trade is that viscose creases while you sit. A few minutes on a hanger in a steamy room fixes it, and hand washing in cool water keeps it from shrinking.

Pink and Red on White

The flowers come in pinks, reds and orange with green leaves on a white ground, a lively mix that reads bright and warm. Heeled sandals, like the strappy tan pair in the photos, suit a dinner; flat sandals suit a weekend market. A woven tan bag echoes those warm tones without adding another color.

Gold earrings and a thin gold bangle finish it. Avoid a busy necklace with the V-neck; the print is already doing plenty.

Floral Smocked Waist Maxi Evenings

Will it cling on a humid evening? Viscose can settle closer to the body when the air is damp, but the tiered skirt keeps enough volume that it does not stick.

Does the red read loud? Not really. The white ground and green leaves soften it, so the overall impression is a warm pink rather than a bold red.

Could it go to a rehearsal dinner? Yes. With heeled sandals and gold jewelry it looks dressed enough for a restaurant or a relaxed family celebration.
