Product Type: Decorative Pillows

A pair of starfish left by the tide on damp sand, painted across a fourteen inch square pillow. Coastal artwork in the compact format.

Small Format, Full Scene

  • A whole scene at fourteen inches. Sand, water and a headland compressed into a square that still reads, which is harder than it sounds.
  • Color holds through a season. Fixed dyes keep the blue of the water separate from the pale of the sand rather than letting both drift.
  • Nothing to assemble. The filling is sealed inside at the factory, which is why the corners sit properly.

Where It Sits Best

A window seat facing a garden, a wicker chair on a screened porch, or as the front pillow in a stack on a bench.

Fourteen inches tucks behind the lower back instead of claiming a whole corner.

Looking After It

  • Do treat marks in place with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Do work from the outside of a mark inward
  • Do air dry it
  • Do shake it by hand every few weeks to restore the loft
  • Skip the washing machine; the sham and insert are one piece
  • Skip direct heat, which sets stains and stiffens fabric
  • Skip leaving it out in heavy rain

Beside Salt Water

Coastal humidity is fine. Salt itself is what stiffens any fabric over time, and it arrives on skin and swimwear as much as in the air.

A rinse with fresh water now and then keeps the hand of the fabric soft.

Worth knowing: avoid sunscreen contact where you can. The oils in it stain fabric in a way water based spills do not, and they resist spot cleaning.

Questions About This Starfish Pillow

Is this the smaller of the two pillow sizes?
Yes, fourteen inches square. It functions as an accent and as lower back support rather than as a full seat cushion.

Does it work indoors?
Entirely. The water resistant fabric is a bonus rather than a requirement, and indoors the color never sees sun at all.

How do I dry it after rain?
Prop it on one corner rather than leaving it flat, so water runs down and out instead of pooling in the base.

Will the sand color look dirty?
It is a painted tone rather than a true off-white, so it reads as sand rather than as a stained pale fabric.

Is the horizon visible in this size?
Yes, though compressed. The composition was laid out so the distance still reads once it is reduced to a square.
