Product Type: Decorative Pillows

A manatee across an eighteen inch square pillow. An unusual subject, painted with a gentleness the animal deserves.

A Subject You Rarely See

  • Nobody else has this on a cushion. Manatees are almost absent from decorative artwork, which is most of the appeal for people who care about them.
  • Soft grays need good dye control. A subject painted almost entirely in close tones falls apart if the dyes drift, and fixed dyes are what hold the separation.
  • A single sealed unit. Filling and cover are joined at manufacture, which is what keeps the soft tones sitting flat and even.

Where It Suits

A sunroom, a porch bench, a chair in a room where the rest of the decoration is quiet enough to let the subject register.

The eighteen inch format gives it presence and works as back support at the same time.

Looking After It

  • Do treat marks in place with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Do work from the outside of a mark inward
  • Do air dry it
  • Do shake it by hand every few weeks to restore the loft
  • Skip the washing machine; the sham and insert are one piece
  • Skip direct heat, which sets stains and stiffens fabric
  • Skip leaving it out in heavy rain

Outdoor Fabric, Indoor Comfort

Water resistant polyester with a smooth hand rather than a coarse outdoor weave, so leaning on it indoors feels natural.

That is what lets the same pillow move between a covered porch and a living room without looking out of place.

Worth knowing: rotate which face sits upward every month or so. Light reaches the top surface far more than the underside, and turning it evens out how the color ages.

Questions About The Manatee Pillow

Is the manatee shown underwater?
The setting is aquatic, painted in the soft tones that suit the animal rather than in a bright cartoon palette.

Does a gray subject look dull in a room?
It reads as calm rather than as flat, and the tonal separation within the painting is what keeps it interesting up close.

Is this size right for a sofa?
The roomier of the two formats, sized to fill a sofa corner properly.

How do I keep it clean?
A mild cleaner on a damp cloth, worked inward from the edge of any mark, then air drying.

Does the design suit a child's room?
It does, and the subject is gentle enough for one. The fabric wipes clean, which matters more in that setting than anywhere else.
