Blue, orange and purple in blocks on a linen-feel case. Blocks behave differently from painted designs on a cushion, and the reason is the shape: a cushion is a flat rectangle seen head on, so hard-edged colour fields read as a composition in a way they never quite do on a moving garment.

Why Blocks Suit A Cushion

  • A cushion holds still. Flat colour needs a flat surface to be read as design rather than as pattern, and a cushion provides exactly that.
  • Three colours give a room three hooks. Blue, orange and purple each pick up something different in a room, so one cushion can tie to a wall, a rug and a chair at once.
  • Hard edges need a print that holds them. The dye bonds inside the polyester, so a block boundary stays sharp instead of softening the way a surface print does.

The Case And The Insert

100% pre-shrunk polyester with a linen-feel weave at 8.1 oz per square yard, hidden zipper, and a shape-retaining insert supplied with it. This arrives as a complete cushion rather than as a case to fill.

Texture Under Flat Colour

A linen-feel weave gives large areas of flat colour something to sit on. On a smooth face the same blocks would look printed; on a textured one they read as dyed cloth, which is the difference between a cushion that looks like a product photograph and one that looks like a textile.

Three Colours Is Already A Scheme

Put this one against a plain sofa rather than a patterned one. With three strong tones in the cushion there is nothing left for a second pattern to add, and the blocks lose their edges against anything busy behind them.

Before You Buy

Is an insert included? Yes. A shape-retaining polyester insert ships with every size, so nothing needs buying separately.

Will the block edges line up with the cushion edges? The design is printed to the case rather than aligned to the seams, so the blocks sit within the face rather than squaring off against the border.

Which size should I take? 18 by 18 for a standard sofa, 20 by 12 for lower back support, 22 by 22 for a deep sofa or a bed.
