Product Type: Decorative Pillows

A mallard drake up on a rock beside the water, green and gold washes behind him, on a fourteen inch square pillow.

A Standing Pose Reads Differently

  • Upright subject, square format. A standing bird fills the vertical of a square better than a swimming one does, which is why the composition works at this size.
  • Green ground, iridescent head. The wash behind is what makes the head come forward, and both are held by dyes chosen not to shift.
  • Whole, not in parts. Cover and filling arrive as a single item with nothing left to buy.

Where It Belongs

A porch chair, a den, a bench in a mudroom, or the seat by the back door of a house that faces water.

Fourteen inches earns its place by supporting the lower back, not only by looking right.

Looking After It

  • Do treat marks in place with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Do work from the outside of a mark inward
  • Do air dry it
  • Do shake it by hand every few weeks to restore the loft
  • Skip the washing machine; the sham and insert are one piece
  • Skip direct heat, which sets stains and stiffens fabric
  • Skip leaving it out in heavy rain

Made In The United States

Cover and filling are manufactured in the United States, with dyes selected for holding up outdoors rather than for looking bright on a screen.

That is what allows the same pillow to work on a covered porch and in a living room.

Worth knowing: check the seams at the end of each season. Catching a loose stitch early is a two minute repair; leaving it lets the fill work its way out.

Questions About This Mallard Pillow

Is the drake shown standing or swimming?
Perched above the waterline, and that upright stance is what supplies the square with a vertical.

What is behind the bird?
Loose green and gold washes suggesting bank and water rather than a detailed landscape.

Will it work on a wicker chair?
Well. The size suits wicker seats, which tend to be shallower than upholstered chairs.

Is the fabric noisy or stiff?
It has a smooth hand rather than the crackle of coated canvas, so it is comfortable to lean against.

Is the fill natural or synthetic?
Synthetic. Polyester fill does not absorb moisture the way down does, which is what makes it suitable near a door or a window.
