Mallard Decor

The mallard drake carries one of the most recognizable color arrangements of any bird, a bottle-green head above a white collar and a chestnut breast, and that combination is what makes it a decorating shorthand rather than just a duck. It belongs to the lodge and cabin tradition, so a mallard piece places a room in that language immediately, alongside wood, wool and warm neutrals. Note that the female is brown and mottled rather than green, so a mallard design featuring a hen reads as a completely different and much quieter piece.
