Product Type: Door Mats

A llama, dyed into the felt of an eighteen by twenty-seven inch mat. The picture is not printed on the surface, which is the whole reason it survives being walked on.

Why This One Lasts

  • Color that cannot scuff off. The dye occupies the fiber itself rather than sitting in a layer on top, so foot traffic wears the felt evenly instead of stripping the image.
  • It stays where you put it. The rubber bottom is stamped across its face rather than left smooth, so it grips instead of skating forward.
  • Edges that hold. Black binding tape is sewn all the way round, which is what stops felt fraying at the corners.

Is This The Right Size

Eighteen by twenty-seven is the smaller format. It suits a single doorway, an apartment entrance, or a back door onto a garden.

It is roughly a quarter of an inch thick, so most doors clear it. If yours already scrapes a rug, measure the gap first.

Cleaning Takes Two Minutes

A garden hose does almost all of it. Press your thumb over the end to build pressure and drive the dirt off rather than soaking it in.

  • Do hose it, or use a power washer
  • Do sweep it with a broom for dry dirt
  • Do vacuum on the floor setting
  • Do spot clean with a mild cleaner
  • Skip anything that foams heavily, since the residue holds new dirt
  • Skip the stiff brush, which lifts the nap
  • Skip the carpet setting on the vacuum, built to pull pile up
  • Skip bleach entirely

Pick A Sheltered Spot

Most listings say indoor or outdoor and leave it there. The honest version is that this mat handles weather but keeps its color far longer under cover.

A roofed porch, a recessed entry, or anywhere indoors will hold the picture at full strength for years. In open sun and standing rain it still works, it just fades sooner.

Worth knowing: sweep before you hose. Dry grit brushes off in seconds; the same grit wet and ground into felt takes real effort.

Questions About The Llama Mat

How thick is it, and will my door clear it?
Around a quarter inch. Standard interior and exterior doors clear that without dragging, but a door with a low sweep or a thick threshold strip is worth checking with a tape measure before you order.

Can I put it through the washing machine?
No. The rubber backing and the layered construction are not built for a machine drum. Hose it, sweep it, or spot clean it with a mild cleaner instead.

Will the rubber backing mark my floor?
The stamped rubber is designed to grip rather than adhere. On sealed hard floors it should not mark, but on a freshly finished or waxed surface it is worth lifting the mat occasionally to let the floor breathe.

What happens if I scrub it with a brush?
The nap lifts and the surface goes fuzzy, which dulls the image even though no color has actually been lost. Once the nap is pulled it does not lie back down, so use water pressure rather than bristles.
