Product Type: Decorative Pillows

A goldfinch on a fourteen inch square pillow, yellow against green. The brightest small bird in the range and the hardest color to hold.

Yellow Is The Test

  • Yellow fades first on most fabrics. It is the least stable pigment family, which is why color fast dyeing matters more on this design than on almost any other.
  • Small bird, close format. Fourteen inches puts the bird at a size where the detail in the wing bars actually registers.
  • Comes ready to use. Filling is done at the point of manufacture, not left to you.

Where To Put It

A window seat, a reading chair, or a covered porch where the green ground picks up whatever is planted nearby.

The compact size means it supports the lower back rather than filling a corner.

Looking After It

  • Do treat marks in place with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Do work from the outside of a mark inward
  • Do air dry it
  • Do shake it by hand every few weeks to restore the loft
  • Skip the washing machine; the sham and insert are one piece
  • Skip direct heat, which sets stains and stiffens fabric
  • Skip leaving it out in heavy rain

Sunlight Is The Variable

Water resistant fabric handles weather. How long the yellow stays yellow comes down to hours of unshaded light.

A shaded seat, or one that only catches morning light, keeps the contrast strong for years.

Worth knowing: remember that sun through a window fades fabric too. An indoor pillow on a south-facing sill ages faster than a shaded outdoor one.

Questions About The Goldfinch Pillow

Will the yellow last outdoors?
With color fast dyes and a shaded position, yes. In all-day direct sun any yellow will soften eventually.

Is the green background dark or light?
It sits in the mid range, which is what makes the yellow bird come forward rather than blending into it.

Can it be used indoors only?
Yes, and indoors is the gentlest option. The fabric and fill are the same either way.

How firm is the pillow?
Filled rather than overstuffed to the point of rigidity. It compresses under weight and recovers when shaken.

Is the bird shown perched or in flight?
Perched, which is what allows the wing bars and the yellow of the breast to be read clearly at this size.

Does it suit a bird watcher as a gift?
This design tends to land well with anyone who actually keeps a feeder, because the species is drawn accurately rather than generically.
