Product Type: T-shirt Dress

A navy ground with red and yellow ribbons winding through it. Navy is the reason this dress behaves like a garment rather than a graphic, because a dark ground under bright colour keeps the eye reading the shape of the dress first and the print second. On a pale ground the same ribbons would take over the silhouette entirely.

What A Dark Ground Does On A Big Garment

  • The line of the dress stays visible. Dark recedes, so the drop shoulder and the fall of the hem are still read as shape rather than lost under colour.
  • Bright colour becomes an accent. Red and yellow on navy are highlights; the same two on white would be the whole garment.
  • Dark cloth forgives a day of wear. Creases, dust and the marks of sitting show far less on navy than on any pale dress.

Ribbons Follow The Body

The winding lines run through the print rather than sitting as blocks, and on a garment that drapes they move with the fabric. That is why this print suits a dress specifically: a curved line needs a surface that falls in folds to be seen properly, and a flat panel cannot give it one.

Materials

96% polyester with 4% spandex at 6.19 oz per square yard, smooth stretch knit, drop shoulder, oversized through the body.

Easy To Place In A Wardrobe

Navy is close enough to a neutral that this is one of the simpler dresses here to wear. Black or navy leggings, black boots, a plain coat. Avoid adding a third bright colour: the ribbons have already spent that part of the budget.

Colour And Fit Questions

Does the navy read as black? In low light it can. In daylight it is clearly blue, and the red and yellow against it are what make the navy legible as navy.

Do the ribbons line up at the seams? Closely rather than exactly. Panels are cut individually from printed cloth, so a line meets across a seam without registering to the millimetre.

Is the fit true to size? The cut is oversized by design, so take your usual size unless you want it longer and looser still.

Hips Are the Real Check

These are body measurements, not garment measurements. Take your chest at its fullest with arms down, your waist at its narrowest and your hips at their fullest, keeping the tape level. Each dress is cut and sewn after it is ordered, so a finished one can measure up to an inch away from the chart.

Chest first, hips second. A straight dress passes the hip on the way down and has no seam at the waist to adjust anything, so the hips row is what catches a size that looked right on the chest alone. Neither reading needs padding out: the cut adds roughly six inches to the chest figure before you put it on.
