Product Type: Decorative Pillows

A canvasback drake on a fourteen inch square pillow, chestnut head against pale flanks. A sporting subject painted with real attention to the bird.

Painted For People Who Know Ducks

  • The head shape is right. Canvasback identification lives in the long sloping profile, and the painting gets it rather than approximating a generic duck.
  • Warm tones wear well. Chestnut and gray are forgiving of the light a porch or a den actually gets.
  • Sealed at manufacture. Cover and filling are joined before it leaves the plant, so there is no pairing exercise at your end.

A Den Or Lodge Chair

This belongs on a leather chair, a bench in a boot room, or a porch seat at a place people arrive at with boots on.

The fourteen inch size sits behind the small of the back rather than filling a whole seat.

Looking After It

  • Do treat marks in place with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Do work from the outside of a mark inward
  • Do air dry it
  • Do shake it by hand every few weeks to restore the loft
  • Skip the washing machine; the sham and insert are one piece
  • Skip direct heat, which sets stains and stiffens fabric
  • Skip leaving it out in heavy rain

Indoors And Out

Water resistant polyester means it copes with a screened porch through a damp fall as readily as with a study.

Keep it out of driving rain and it will hold both its color and its shape.

Worth knowing: give it a shake before guests arrive rather than after. Polyester fill flattens where it has been leaned on, and a minute of shaking resets it.

Questions About The Canvasback Pillow

Is the species accurately drawn?
The distinctive profile and coloring are there. It is a painting by one of the company's artists rather than a technical plate.

Does the pale body show marks?
The flanks are the lightest area and will show a mark soonest. They also clean up fastest with a damp cloth.

Is a covered dock too exposed?
Not with a fresh water rinse from time to time. Salt and standing damp are what shorten any outdoor fabric.

What size seat does it suit?
A chair or a bench rather than a deep sofa. At fourteen inches it supports rather than fills.

Would this suit a shooting lodge?
It is the obvious setting for it, alongside a den or any room where sporting artwork already sits comfortably.
