Every figure above is in inches and is taken on the body rather than on the finished garment, so measure the fullest part of the bust, the narrowest part of the waist an inch or two above the navel, and the fullest part of the hips.
A strapless bodice is sized at the ribcage, not the bust. The band under the arms is what holds the gown up, so measure directly beneath the bust and let that figure decide between two possible sizes. Order early enough for one fitting: a strapless gown that has been taken in half a size at the ribs is the difference between adjusting it all evening and forgetting it is there.
