Product Type: Hats & Caps

This slouchy beanie is the beige colorway of Allpa's Essential Knit, a plain, soft knit with a rolled edge and extra length at the back. Its yarn, per Allpa, is 70% baby alpaca with 23% polyamide and 7% wool, offered in one size it calls unisex. The color is a warm oatmeal beige, flecked with lighter fibers, so it reads as a natural neutral rather than a flat tan.

  • Room to slouch. The extra length gathers behind the crown, which gives the relaxed shape without stretching the knit.
  • Rolled edge. The brim rolls on itself instead of folding into a cuff, so it sits light and thin across the forehead.
  • Baby alpaca grade. Baby alpaca names a fineness grade of the fiber, not the age of the animal, so it is the softer end of alpaca.

Slouchy Beanie Fit and Shape

A slouchy beanie is cut longer than the head, so the extra knit drops toward the back. Pull it on straight, then slide it back until the rolled edge sits at the hairline and the slack falls behind. Pulled down to the eyebrows it covers the ears for cold days; pushed back it frames the face for milder ones. The rolled edge has no doubled layer, so it never presses a line into the forehead.

Why the Blend Has Polyamide

Pure baby alpaca is soft but has little spring, so a hat knit only from it can grow and lose shape. The 23% polyamide gives the yarn strength and memory, which helps the beanie bounce back after it has been stretched over a ponytail, and the small wool share adds some crimp. That is why this blend keeps its slouch instead of drooping over the seasons.

Wearing Oatmeal Beige Well

Beige is the easiest knit color to wear with camel, cream, olive and denim, and it softens a black coat. A light neutral near the face also bounces a little light back onto the skin, which is why beige hats photograph well in gray winter light. The photos also show it beside matching fingerless gloves, a pairing that keeps a neutral outfit calm and finished. Allpa's care label says to hand wash it cold with a mild detergent, reshape it while wet and lay it flat to dry.

Beige Beanie Care and Wear

Will a beanie flatten my hair? Less, if you pick the right cut. Choose the slouchy shape and wear it pushed back, so the crown floats above the head instead of pressing on it. Putting it on over dry hair, not damp, also keeps the roots from setting flat.

Does a light beanie show dirt quickly? Beige shows makeup at the brim more than dark colors. After a day over foundation, dab the inner brim with a damp cloth, and wash it when the edge starts to look darker than the crown.

Can men wear this beanie? Yes. Allpa calls it unisex, and the plain knit and natural beige suit any coat or face.
