What a Gradient Print Needs

  • A continuous tone range. Sublimation dyes the fiber across the whole spectrum between two shades, where a surface layer tends to band a blend into stripes.
  • An uninterrupted panel. Flat seams and no sewn-in label, so a transition is not cut in half by a ridge at the point it is meant to be smoothest.
  • Four-way stretch so the knit gives in both directions and a blend is not pulled long across the hip.
  • A 95% cotton gusset under the printed outer, keeping the skin-contact decision independent of the color work.

How Blended Color Behaves

A blend fails at the point where two shades meet, and it fails differently from a solid print: instead of fading, it develops edges. That is a defect of the printing layer rather than of the dye, so it cannot happen where there is no film to fail. The elastane is the part that ages, and on a design with soft transitions a tired knit shows as a stretched blend rather than as a crack.

Where a Fantasy Print Goes

A pastel fantasy design is a mood rather than a statement, and since no one else will ever see it, the mood is entirely yours. That is the honest description and it is also the appeal. It gives well, because a soft blend travels better as a gift than a specific joke does. It sits easily beneath everything mid-toned and dark.
