Vegan leather at knee length is a jacket. At ankle length it becomes architecture. This is the long version in black, double-breasted, with wide lapels and a surface that carries a low sheen rather than a shine.

What Vegan Leather Does at Length

The material has more body than a woven coat cloth, so it holds a line instead of following the wearer. On a short jacket that reads as structure; over this much length it reads as weight and movement — the coat swings from the shoulder rather than hanging from it.

The low sheen is doing quiet work. A matte long coat in black disappears at night; a surface that catches a little light keeps the outline visible, which is the difference between wearing a coat and being wrapped in one.

Why Double-Breasted Suits a Maxi

A single-breasted coat at this length gives one long vertical seam and very little else. Doubling the front adds a second line, a cross-over and two columns of buttons, which breaks the expanse into proportions the eye can read.

The wide lapel does the same job at the top, giving the shoulder something to balance against the length below it.

Wearing a Coat as the Outfit

Long outerwear works hardest in two situations. Over something plain and dark, where the coat supplies the whole silhouette and the clothes underneath only have to be comfortable. Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

Take this one literally, because a coated surface gives far less than a woven one and there is no ease to borrow. Measure with a layer already on and read the bust without rounding it down.

Before You Order

Is it real leather? No. BYMANYC states it builds without hide, and the surface here is a coated synthetic.

Will it crease where it folds? Coated materials hold a crease where they are folded repeatedly, so hang it rather than fold it.

Does it need a belt? No. The double-breasted front closes on its own buttons and the cross-over does the shaping, so nothing has to be cinched for the coat to hold its line.
