Long Coat

Length is the whole argument for a long coat: past the knee it covers a dress hem, a suit jacket and most skirts, so what is underneath stays hidden and stays warm instead of peeking out below the coat. Visually the same length reads as a single vertical line, which is why a long coat lengthens a silhouette in a way a hip-length one cannot. The trade is movement and stairs, so check that the coat allows a full stride before committing, since a hem that fights the legs gets left on the hook.
