The Ruffle Long Coat with Contrast Piping does something outerwear almost never does: it puts a ruffle on a full-length coat. Coats are built to be structural, so softening one deliberately is either the reason you want it or the reason you walk past.

Why Ruffles on Outerwear Surprise

A ruffle needs cloth that gathers, and coat fabric is usually chosen to do the opposite. Putting one on a floor-skimming coat means the maker has picked a cloth that will move, which changes the whole garment from architecture into something closer to a long dress with a closure.

That is the trade. It has less presence standing still than a structured trench and considerably more once you are walking.

What Contrast Piping Outlines

Piping runs a narrow band of a second color along an edge, so it draws the outline of the garment rather than decorating its surface. On a coat with a ruffle that job matters: the piping keeps a soft shape legible by giving the eye a hard line to follow.

Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

A long coat goes over a whole outfit, so measure over the layer you actually intend beneath it and read the bust. The ruffle absorbs variation at the hem in a way a straight coat cannot, which makes it more forgiving there than a structured one.

Before You Order

Is it warm? It is built for cool evenings rather than cold ones, since a soft cloth that gathers cannot also be a windbreak.

Can the ruffle be pressed flat? No, because it is cut and sewn as a gathered edge rather than finished afterwards, so the shape is the garment itself.
