The Women's Faux Leather Color-Splicing Trench Coat breaks a coated trench into panels of different color rather than cutting it from one piece. On a garment this long that is a structural decision, and it is what stops the coat reading as a single flat expanse.

What Splicing Does to a Trench

A full-length coated coat presents a lot of uninterrupted surface, and coated surfaces reflect. Splicing breaks that expanse into sections that catch light at slightly different angles, so the coat has depth standing still rather than only in motion.

It also hides wear better than a single panel would. A crease on a spliced coat reads as one of the seams; on an unbroken one it reads as damage.

How Panels Break Up Length

Horizontal joins shorten and vertical ones lengthen, which is the oldest rule in cutting and the reason panel placement is not decorative. Here the splicing gives the eye stopping points down a long garment that would otherwise read as one drop from shoulder to hem.

Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

A coated surface has no ease to borrow, so measure over the heaviest layer you plan beneath it. Spliced panels also make an alteration visible, because taking a seam in moves a join out of line.

Is it real leather? No. BYMANYC states it builds without hide, and the surface here is a coated synthetic.
