A jacket in a strong color has one job and has to do it well, because nothing else in the outfit will get a word in. This one is bright green, cut oversized through the shoulder and cropped at the hip.

What a Cropped Oversize Does

Oversize and long reads as borrowed. Oversize and short reads as deliberate, because the proportion is clearly a choice rather than a fit problem: the volume is across the shoulders and the hem stops where a waistband starts.

It also keeps high-waisted pants or a skirt visible, which is what stops a roomy jacket from erasing the shape underneath it.

Why Bright Green Is Difficult

Green sits in the middle of the spectrum, so it argues with both warm and cool neighbors in a way navy or camel never do. That is the honest reason bright green outerwear is rare and the reason it works: nobody else in the room is wearing it.

The colors it likes are the ones with nothing to say back: black, white, gray, denim, cream. Against any of those it is the only event in the outfit, which is the correct number of events.

Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

BYMANYC publishes a single chart, graded in inches by bust, waist and hip, though which bands are cut differs from one garment to the next. It matters less on this piece than on almost anything else, because the jacket is cut oversized on purpose, so read your bust band and expect it to sit well away from you.

On a deliberately roomy cut the risk runs the other way. Sizing up on top of an oversized cut is how a jacket becomes a tent, so if in doubt take the band that matches you.

Before You Order

What if I want the shape without the color? The proportion is the transferable part. A cropped oversize cut in a neutral behaves exactly the same way and asks far less of the rest of the outfit, at the cost of the one thing this jacket is for.

Will the color fade? A saturated dye at this strength is worth keeping out of prolonged direct sun, and worth drying away from a window rather than on a line in it.

Does oversized mean sized up? No. The room is already built into the cut at every size in the run, so going up a band simply adds it twice.
