A women's leather tote bag should feel as good on day one hundred as on day one, and the finish decides that. Women's Leather Tote in Five Shades

The five shades are really two leathers. Storm is a smooth black and Bordeaux a smooth burgundy, with an even surface and crisp edges. Terracotta, Sienna and Cypress are waxy, oiled leathers with a mottled face, and the photographs show it: lighter streaks where the leather bends and darker patches where it lies flat. That pull-up effect is the easiest leather to live with, because a light scratch can often be rubbed back with a warm fingertip. Choose smooth if you want the bag to look the same every day, waxy if you want it to change with you.

Carrying the Tote Three Ways

Valetto carries three ways. By the two handles, in the hand or the crook of the arm, it reads as a polished city bag. Caring for Smooth and Waxy Leather

The two finishes want slightly different care. Smooth Storm and Bordeaux only need a soft, dry cloth and a light conditioner a few times a year. On Terracotta, Sienna and Cypress, warm the leather with your palm and rub a scuff in small circles before reaching for anything else; the wax usually closes over it. Keep both away from radiators and car dashboards in summer, where heat dries leather fastest.

Valetto Shades and Weather

Which shade is easiest to style? Storm, the smooth black, goes with everything. Sienna is the warm neutral for brown boots, and Cypress, a deep olive, is the shade people ask about.

Will a waxy leather tote mark in the rain? Drops can darken waxy leather for a while. Blot them, let the bag dry at room temperature, then rub the area with your palm to even the color.
