Product Type: Crossbody Bags

A sling bag is the one bag you can wear for ten hours and forget you have on. Blake is TORONATA's pebbled leather sling: one adjustable leather strap, zip compartments on the front and the back, and an interior with several pockets, one of them lined for a phone.

  • Pebbled grain. A textured surface that hides the small scuffs a daily bag collects.
  • Zips front and back. Quick-reach storage on the outside, with the back compartment resting against your body.
  • A phone pocket inside. TORONATA lists several inner pockets, one lined for a phone, and a soft suede lining.
  • One adjustable strap. Leather, and adjustable, so the bag can sit high on the chest or lower on the back.

How to Wear a Sling Bag

How to wear a sling bag comes down to two choices: front or back, and how high. Wear it in front, across the chest, on transit, in crowds and on travel days, because the zips stay where you can see them. Swing it to your back for walking and cycling, when you want your arms free. For height, set the strap so the bag sits between your collarbone and your lower ribs and stays put when you bend forward; a sling that hangs at the hip swings and pulls on the shoulder. Over a winter coat, let the strap out a few inches so the bag lands where it did over a shirt.

What Fits Inside the Blake

TORONATA gives the size as 20 by 31 by 8 centimeters, which is about 7.9 by 12.2 by 3.1 inches on the outside. Going by those numbers, a phone, a wallet, keys, sunglasses, a charger and a paperback travel together, and a small tablet of roughly 8 by 5 inches is inside the outline. A 13 inch laptop is not. Use the lined pocket for the phone so keys never share a space with the screen, and give the back compartment to whatever you would hate to lose, since it is the one pressed against you.

Pebbled Leather Day to Day

Pebbling is a texture pressed into the surface, and it is the practical finish: scratches that would show on smooth leather disappear into the grain. Dust it with a dry cloth, and work a little leather conditioner in twice a year so the strap, which flexes most, stays supple. Blake comes in Black, Tan, Brown and Gray. Tan and Brown deepen with handling; Black and Gray stay closest to how they arrive. A sling loads one shoulder, so pack lighter than the bag allows: what fits is more than you should carry all day.

Shoulder Side, Winter Coats and Rain

Which shoulder should a sling bag go on? Try both before a long day. The strap should cross from one shoulder to the opposite side, the bag should swing to your front with one hand, and the zip pulls should face the hand that opens them. Most people settle on the shoulder opposite their stronger hand.

How to wear a sling bag under a coat? Under an open coat or jacket, a front-worn sling is hidden from view, which is the safest way to carry it in a packed station or a market. Shorten the strap a little so the bag lies flat against you, and keep only flat items in the back compartment so nothing presses into your ribs.

Can a leather sling bag get wet? A shower will not ruin it. Blot the drops with a soft cloth, never rub, let the bag air out in a cool room with no heater nearby, and condition it afterward. In a downpour, carry it under your jacket.
