Product Type: Crossbody Bags

Two zips across the top, two separate rooms inside: that is what a camera bag offers over a single-pocket crossbody. Kiko Leather's name for it is the Classic Crossbody, a black pebble leather bag 9.5 inches wide, 7 tall and 2.5 deep, with twin main compartments, a zip pocket on its face, a slip sleeve on the outside and a strap you can adjust or unclip.

  • Two zipped compartments. Keys and coins live on one side, phone and sunglasses on the other, and nothing scratches anything.
  • A front zip pocket. The transit card or the lip balm you reach for twenty times a day.
  • An inside zip pocket. A third layer of order for earbuds, a spare key or folded cash.
  • Silver-tone hardware. Bright metal on black that pairs with silver jewelry and steel watches.

What Makes a Camera Crossbody Bag

A camera crossbody bag is a fashion shape, named after the boxy cases photographers once slung over a shoulder: rectangular, wider than it is tall, with zips running along the top. This one keeps that outline and doubles the zips, which is where the shape gets useful. Splitting a small bag into two zipped halves means you open only the side you need, so a phone never comes out wearing lint from the key side. The name describes the silhouette rather than padding, so a compact camera rides best in its own sleeve inside.

The leather is what Kiko Leather calls pebble leather, and on a boxy shape that grain also hides the corners, which are the first places a camera shape scuffs against doorframes and car seats.

Sizing Up 9.5 by 7 Inches

Measured on the outside, each compartment takes a large phone lying lengthwise, since today's biggest phones run about 6.4 inches tall. Put a slim card wallet beside it on one side, and keys, a mini hand cream and earbuds on the other. The 2.5 inch depth keeps the bag close to your body, so it does not bounce on a brisk walk or swing into people in line.

The strap fastens to the sides with buckled tabs, so the front pocket faces out and stays reachable while the bag sits at your hip.

Living With the Classic Crossbody

Which side should hold the phone? The compartment closer to your body when you wear the bag. It is the half a stranger's hand reaches last, and the phone's screen faces the soft leather instead of the zip teeth.

Will a full-size wallet fit? A compact or trifold wallet fits easily. A long continental wallet fits too, lengthwise, but it takes over a whole compartment, so the phone moves to the other side.

Does the camera shape work for evening? Yes. Take the strap up until the bag rests at your waist; black leather with bright metal reads tidy enough for dinner, without the bulk of a bigger bag.

Do the zips catch at the corners? Pull each zip slowly at the corners and hold the opposite end of the bag. Pebble leather corners are firm, and a steady hand keeps the track clear.
