Two of the materials in this fragrance are resins almost nobody outside the trade has heard of. Elemi is bright, lemony and faintly peppery; ciste is dark, leathery and almost animal, and having both in one heart is why the middle of this bottle does not smell like anything else here.

The Spice Comes First

Bergamot orange opens it but black pepper and cardamom are right behind, and within a minute the spice has taken the lead. That is unusual: most fragrances give citrus a clear run before anything else arrives, and skipping that step is what makes this one feel purposeful from the start. There is no gentle introduction.

What the Resins Do

Elemi lifts, ciste anchors. One is bright and sharp, the other is dark and thick, and jasmine with cedarwood and clove sits between them. The result is a heart with genuine tension in it, pulling in two directions at once, which is far more interesting than a middle that simply gets warmer.

How Far It Travels

This is one of the stronger projectors in the collection. In a large room that is exactly what you want; in a car with three other people it is less welcome. One spray covers most situations and two is for a cold night outdoors. The guaiac wood and vetiver in the base are what carry it that distance.

Most antiperspirants are scented, and a strong one will fight whatever you spray on top of it, usually winning in the first hour.
