Wildlife figures forgive a loose paint job because nobody knows exactly what one wolf should look like. A breed dog does not: the white chest, white feet and dark mask are written into the breed standard, and getting any of them in the wrong place is instantly visible to an owner. That is what makes a marked dog the hardest paint job at four inches.

Look at the front feet first; that is where it shows.

The Face Does the Work

A boxer is recognized by its head before anything else, and the flat, slightly undershot muzzle with the dark mask over it is the whole breed in one feature. Sculpt that vaguely and the piece becomes a generic short haired dog. The mask here is laid in as its own step rather than washed over the head.
