The Women's Wide-Leg Trousers in Chocolate Brown Pinstripe are workwear before they are anything else. High waisted, cut wide from the hip, with a double row of buttons at the front and a fine vertical stripe through a warm brown cloth.

What Pinstripe Does Vertically

A vertical stripe carries the eye up and down rather than across, which is the oldest trick in tailoring and still the most reliable. On a wide leg it does something specific: it keeps the volume from reading as width, because the line is always pointing lengthways.

Fineness matters here. A bold chalk stripe announces a suit; a fine one reads as texture from a few steps away and only resolves into a stripe up close.

How Wide Legs Sit

A wide trouser hangs from the waist rather than following the leg, so the shape is set at the top and everything below simply falls. That is why the high waist is not a styling choice but a structural one — drop the waist and the whole line collapses.

Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

Read the waist and hip and disregard the bust, which a trouser has no use for. A high waist sits at the narrowest part of the body and leaves almost no tolerance either side.

Before You Order

Do people still think brown is dated? Many do, and it is the assumption that makes brown useful, since a room of black trousers has nothing to say to a warm neutral.

Will it need hemming? Probably, unless you are tall or wearing height. What makes it worth doing properly here is the stripe: a hem that pools at the floor breaks the vertical the whole trouser is built on.
