The Women's White Midi Dress with Smocked Waist and Puff Sleeves is white, below the knee, and gathered through the middle by a panel of smocking. Smocking is elastic stitching worked into the cloth itself, and it is what makes this dress fit more than one shape.

Why Smocking Fits Differently

A smocked waist stretches and returns, so it sits at your natural waist wherever that happens to be rather than where a fixed seam was sewn. That is a genuine fit advantage over a belt or a darted waist, and it is why a smocked dress suits a wider range of bodies than its size run suggests.

It also means the dress is comfortable through a long meal, which a rigid waist is not.

How Puff Sleeves Balance White

Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

Smocking absorbs a good deal of variation, so the waist figure is the least critical one on this dress and the bust is what to read. A near miss matters less here than on any fixed waist.

Before You Order

Does smocking lose its stretch? Elastic stitching relaxes with time on any garment, which is why the waist is the part that ages first.

Do the neckline ties adjust the fit? They adjust the neckline rather than the body, since the fit through the waist comes from the smocking.

Do puff sleeves survive a suitcase? Less well than the rest of the dress. Volume at the shoulder is held by the cut, and a folded sleeve arrives flat, so hang it on arrival and give it an hour before wearing it.
