This is a dress for people who love a print with a little history in it. The Julietta is a puff sleeve midi dress in a floral drawn to look like a hand-carved block print, with a notched V-neck framed in striped trim, a high waist, side pockets and a ruffle finishing the skirt. It comes in three versions: white with pink and lilac flowers, royal blue with pink flowers, and an ornate blue and white print.

  • Striped neckline trim. Navy, white and pink stripes outline the notch and give the face a frame.
  • Puff sleeves. Short gathered sleeves round off the shoulder and stay out of the way.
  • Side pockets. Slit pockets let your hands and a phone disappear into the skirt.

The Look of a Block Print

Block printing is the old method of carving a motif into wood and stamping it onto cloth, row after row, which gives flowers that slightly naive, upright look. This dress borrows that style in printed polyester, so you get the charm of the motif with a crisp, even repeat and colors that hold in the wash. The striped trim at the neck is the detail that makes it look designed rather than simply printed.

The three versions behave differently. White with pink flowers is the brightest and most summery. Royal blue is the most grown-up and suits an evening with gold jewelry. The blue and white ornate print looks like classic porcelain and pairs with silver.

Since that high seam is fixed, choose by bust measurement so the seam lands where it should.
