The Women's Eyelet Midi Dress in Geometric Lace is cut from a blue and white eyelet, with a square neckline, ruffled straps and a scalloped hem below the knee. Eyelet is a cloth with holes punched and stitched into it, and that changes what the dress can do.

What Eyelet Cloth Does

The perforations let air through, which makes a covered dress wearable in heat. That is the whole reason eyelet exists as a summer fabric and the reason this one is not simply a printed cotton in a pattern that looks similar.

The holes also carry the pattern. Here they are arranged geometrically rather than as scattered florals, so the cloth reads as ordered from a distance and detailed up close.

How a Square Neck Sits

A square neckline draws two horizontals and two verticals, which is the most architectural shape a neckline can be. Against a soft ruffled strap that contrast is the point: hard line at the front, soft edge on the shoulder.

It also leaves the collarbone fully visible without opening the chest, which is why a square neck reads as daytime where a plunge does not.

Where an Eyelet Midi Works

This is a daytime dress for occasions that state a dress code: a christening, a graduation, an outdoor lunch with an invitation attached to it. Covered enough to be correct, open enough to survive an afternoon in the sun.

It is not an evening dress and does not pretend to be. Eyelet reads casual under artificial light no matter how well it is cut, and a plain dress does that job better.

Measure the bust at its fullest with the tape level under the arms, the waist at its narrowest, and the hip around the widest point, keeping the tape snug but not tight and taking every figure over what you intend to wear underneath.

Eyelet is a woven cloth with no stretch in it, so read all three figures rather than relying on give that is not there. On a non-stretch weave the larger band is the safer choice where two are close.

Before You Order

Is eyelet see-through? It lets light through by construction. Blue and white breaks up what shows in a way a plain white eyelet does not, though in strong sun a slip still settles the question.

Do the straps adjust? They are ruffled and sewn as shown, so the drop is set by the size you choose.

Is it warm enough for spring? Not especially, since a perforated cloth is built to let air through, which is exactly wrong in a cold room and exactly right in July.
