Product Type: Crop Tops

Toucan is a Tropical print on a polyester and elastane knit cut short, finished with flat seams and no sewn-in label. The artwork is the loud part; the garment underneath is deliberately plain.

What Keeps a Cropped Hem Still

  • 17% elastane in the knit. That much stretch is what lets a cropped shape recover its position through movement instead of creeping upward over the course of a day.
  • Flat seams and no sewn-in label. Nothing rubs at the underarm or along the hem, which are the two places a crop top usually starts to irritate.
  • Polyester dries quickly. It does not hold water the way cotton does, so this works as a warm weather layer rather than only as an indoor piece.
  • A sublimated print rather than a surface one. The color is dyed into the fiber, so it will not crack across the chest, which is where a crop top flexes most.

How the Knit Handles Heat

A synthetic knit sheds moisture instead of soaking it up, so this dries fast rather than sitting damp against the skin once the day warms up. The print is sublimated rather than layered on, which matters most across the chest, since that is where a crop top flexes hardest and where a surface print would crack first.

Wearing It with a High Rise

A crop top is decided by what it sits above rather than by what it is. Against a high rise, meaning wide leg trousers, a midi skirt or a high-waisted brief, the gap between hem and waistband closes and the whole thing reads as ordinary daywear. Against a low rise the gap opens and it becomes a more deliberate outfit, which is a fine thing to want, just a different one. Worn open under a shirt or a light jacket, the print shows through the gap without having to carry the outfit on its own, and that is the easiest way to wear a loud pattern if loud is not usually your register. It is a warm-weather piece by fabric rather than by rule; the same knit works as a base layer under something heavier when it is not.

Fabric, Sizes and Care

  • Fabric: 83% polyester, 17% elastane.
  • Stretch: four-way, so the knit gives across the body as well as along it.
  • Breathability: a quick-drying knit that moves air rather than holding it.
  • Sizes: Small, Medium, Large.
  • How to measure: run the tape around the fullest part of the chest.
  • Chest measurement: Small 84 to 88 cm, Medium 88 to 92, Large 92 to 96.
  • Brand: Mememe, a label that describes itself as Ukrainian.
  • Finish: flat seams, no elastic bands, no sewn-in labels.
  • Print: sublimated toucan artwork from the Tropical range.
  • Care: gentle wash, hand ironing, no dry cleaning.

Before You Order

Does it ride up? A cropped hem rides up when the body of the top is stretched close to its limit across the bust or the ribs. There is real recovery in a knit with this much elastane, but the honest fix is size rather than fabric.

Between two bands, which one? The closer one, which is the maker's own advice. A cropped hem holds its position while the knit is working comfortably and starts travelling upward when it is stretched near its limit.

Does the print change the fit? No. The artwork is dyed into the same base knit, so the fabric, the cut and the size run are unchanged by it.
