Product Type: Pet Carriers

The dome is nearly seven inches across, which is the difference between a cat looking out and a cat looking through a slot. This is the tall capsule in the range, built to carry up to 17.6 pounds of cat on a back rather than in a hand.

A Dome Instead Of A Window

A flat clear panel gives a cat a rectangle of view directly ahead. A curved dome gives peripheral vision, so the animal can track movement to the sides without pressing its face against plastic. On a long walk that is the difference between a cat that settles and one that keeps repositioning.

What The Numbers Mean For Your Cat

At 17.7 inches tall this is the deepest carrier in the range, which is what allows a cat to sit upright rather than crouch. The published load is 17.6 pounds for cats and 14.3 pounds for dogs, and the difference is not arbitrary: a dog carries its weight further from the spine of the pack.

PVC Shell, Oxford Cloth Back

The dome and front are PVC; the body and straps are Oxford cloth. The rigid front holds the viewing shape under load while the fabric back still contours to a shoulder, which a fully hard case cannot do.

Sun Is The Thing To Watch

A clear dome collects heat faster than fabric. Keep it out of direct sun and out of a parked car, and on a bright day turn the dome away from the light while you stop. This applies to every bubble carrier made, not just this one.

Not For A Cat That Panics In Enclosure

A capsule is a closed shell with one small opening, and a cat that fights confinement will fight this harder than it would a mesh sided bag. It is also tall rather than wide, so it suits a cat that sits upright more than a dog that wants to lie down.

Dome Backpack Questions

What does the empty weight mean in practice? At 1.9 pounds the pack is a small fraction of the animal, so nearly all of what you carry is the cat.

Why is the dog limit lower than the cat limit? A dog sits further from the pack's spine, so the same weight puts more leverage on the straps.

Can I put the carrier down and leave the dome open? The dome is part of the shell rather than a lid. Access is through the top and side entries.
