Sixteen materials go into this one, which makes it the most crowded composition on the shelf. Five citrus at the top, leather and apple sharing a heart, and seven separate things in the base including cedarwood, sandalwood, vetiver and incense. Complexity is the product here rather than a side effect.

Why the List Is So Long

A big note list can mean confusion or it can mean layers, and the difference is whether the stages are distinct. Here they are: a sharp citrus opening, a warm leathery middle with crisp apple cutting through it, and a base that keeps revealing new corners well into the evening. You get several different fragrances out of one bottle across a day.

Leather and Apple Together

These two do not belong on the same page and that is exactly why the middle is interesting. The apple is crisp and bright, the leather is dry and dark, and sage with cinnamon sits between them holding the two apart. It should clash. Instead the fruit keeps the leather from getting heavy and the leather keeps the fruit from getting silly.

An Evening Fragrance

The incense and animal notes in the base put this firmly after dark. It is a dinner, a bar, a night that goes on longer than planned. In daylight the complexity reads as a lot rather than as interesting, and it deserves an occasion where somebody is close enough to follow the whole arc.
