A satin sleep shirt is the boyfriend shirt made for bed: one piece, nothing at the waist, and a hem long enough to sleep in. The Kimberly from Be Wicked is a button-down nightshirt with a notched collar, a chest pocket, long cuffed sleeves and a curved dolphin hem, in black or dusty rose satin. It looks just as good with coffee on a Sunday as it does at midnight.

  • Nothing at the waist. No band to dig in, which side sleepers notice first.
  • Curved side hem. Longer at front and back, shorter at the sides for easy movement.
  • Cuffs that roll. Fold them up to the elbow when you want cooler arms.
  • Black or dusty rose. A classic dark and a soft muted pink.

Sleep Shirt or Pajama Set

Sleeping shirts go by two names, nightshirt and sleep shirt, and the appeal is the same: one layer means no waistband, no shorts riding up and nothing to twist. A pajama set gives more coverage on the legs; a sleep shirt gives more freedom. If you kick off the covers at night or hate a tight waist, this is the shape to try. Buttoned halfway over leggings, it also passes for a shirt on a slow morning.

The satin is 92% polyester and 8% spandex. The spandex adds give across the shoulders and through the button front, so the placket lies flat when you move rather than pulling open between buttons.

Where the Buttons Need Room

Be Wicked publishes one size chart across its sleepwear, and the figures are body measurements in inches, so measure yourself rather than a garment.

Buttons gape at the bust first, so pick the sleep shirt by the bust row. Each of the two largest sizes, 1X/2X and 3X/4X, covers two rows of the maker's chart.

Nightshirt Fit and Hem Length

Does the hem cover the thighs? On the model it ends at the upper thigh at the sides and dips lower at front and back, the classic shirttail curve.

Why drip dry instead of the dryer? Dryer heat breaks down spandex and dulls satin. The maker's care is a cold hand wash on its own, then drip drying, and no dry cleaning.

Can it double as a beach cover-up? Worn open over a swimsuit, yes, and the long sleeves give the arms sun cover. Rinse it in cold water after a swim and let it drip dry.

Is dusty rose more pink or mauve? A muted pink with a soft sheen, closer to rose than to purple, and warmer in lamplight than in daylight.
