The white tip of a red fox tail is the field mark that settles the species, and it sits on the single worst place to put paint. A tail end is the part that rubs against every other figure in a box, so it is the first detail to go on a badly finished miniature. Check it before anything else.
- White tail tip painted. The species marker, on the most exposed point.
- Rust over cream. Two shades blended, not one uniform coat of color.
- Bushy tail sculpted. Modeled full rather than tapering to a thin spike.
- 192 per bag. All one sculpt, around an inch long.
Paint on an Exposed Point
Extremities take the wear in a bag of loose pieces, which is why so many cheap miniatures end up with bare plastic at the ears and tail. A thick tail spreads that contact over a wider area and keeps the white tip intact far longer than a thin one would.
One Genus, Two Habitats
This animal and the fennec fox belong to the same genus and live in completely different worlds, one in northern woodland and one in desert sand. Putting the two bags side by side makes the point about adaptation faster than any diagram.
Questions About the Red Fox Minis
What tells it apart from a fennec? Rust coloring, a white tail tip and normal sized ears rather than oversized ones.
Does the tail tip stay white? The tail is sculpted thick, which spreads wear and protects the paint at the point.
How many pieces ship? 192, every one from the same mold.
