Full-spectrum color blocks on a body-skimming dress. There is one thing about a printed fitted garment that almost nobody states, and it decides whether you will be happy with it: the print stretches with you. A flat product photograph shows the artwork at rest, and worn it takes the shape of the body underneath.

What Stretch Does To A Printed Block

  • Blocks widen where the body is widest. Color fields are not fixed shapes on a fitted garment; they follow the curve, so the proportions differ from the photograph and differ from one wearer to another.
  • Straight boundaries become curves. A hard edge printed flat bends around the body, which on a full-spectrum design reads as flow rather than as distortion.
  • The color never thins. Sublimated dye is inside the fiber, so stretching the cloth does not pale the print the way stretching a surface print does.

Which Is Why A Spectrum Suits This Cut

A design with many colors in sequence absorbs that distortion, where a design built on a single precise motif would show it. A rainbow is the print most forgiving of a fitted silhouette, and that is the reason to choose it here rather than on a loose garment.

The Silhouette Is The Commitment

This is a close-fitting dress and it does not become a relaxed one by sizing up. A larger size in this cut is a larger close-fitting dress, not a looser one, because the shape comes from the stretch of the cloth rather than from the amount of it.

Before You Order

Will the print look like the photograph? The artwork is the same, but on a fitted garment it takes the shape of the body underneath, so the proportions of the blocks will differ from a flat image.

Does stretching fade the color? No. The dye sits inside the fiber rather than on the surface, so stretching the cloth does not thin the print.

Can I size up for a looser fit? Not usefully. The close fit comes from the fabric, so a larger size is a larger fitted dress rather than a relaxed one.
