A flat product photograph shows the artwork at rest, and worn it takes the shape of the body underneath.

What Stretch Does To A Printed Block

• Blocks widen where the body is widest. Colour fields are not fixed shapes on a fitted garment; they follow the curve, so the proportions differ from the photograph and differ from one wearer to another.
• Straight boundaries become curves. A hard edge printed flat bends around the body, which on a full-spectrum design reads as flow rather than as distortion.
• The colour never thins. Sublimated dye is inside the fibre, so stretching the cloth does not pale the print the way stretching a surface print does.

Does stretching fade the colour? No. The dye sits inside the fibre rather than on the surface, so stretching the cloth does not thin the print.

Can I size up for a looser fit? Not usefully. The close fit comes from the fabric, so a larger size is a larger fitted dress rather than a relaxed one.
