Product Type: Sweaters

The Elliot is a short sleeve sweater top in wide color-block stripes, with a notched V-neck and small cap sleeves. It comes in three stripe palettes: white with green, pink and brown; pink with hot pink and purple; and light blue with gray and pink.

  • Notched V-neck, a small split at the center of the neckline that lengthens the neck and frames a necklace.
  • Cap sleeves that keep it cool enough to pair with cutoff shorts.
  • Cotton-rich yarn, 45% cotton to 55% acrylic, which the maker says resists pilling.
  • Three palettes, from earthy to sweet to cool.

Short Sleeve Sweater for Warm Days

A short sleeve sweater is a summer knit: the texture of a sweater with the airflow of a tee. This one wears like a casual top with cutoffs and sandals, and like a smart one with white pants and a structured bag. The notch at the neck does a lot of work: it breaks the horizontal stripes with a small vertical line, and it gives a pendant a natural place to sit.

Choosing a Stripe Palette

The white palette, shown on the model, is the most versatile, since green, pink and brown pick up almost any bottom. The pink palette is the brightest and looks best with white or light denim. The light blue one is the coolest in tone and pairs with gray, navy and silver jewelry. If you wear warm gold jewelry and tan shoes most days, pick the white version.

Wide Bands and Proportion

Wide stripes on a short top end at the waist, so they never look heavy. Tuck it lightly into high-waisted shorts or a skirt and the bands stop right where your waist begins. Each letter size covers two women's numeric sizes: S is 4 and 6, M is 8 and 10, L is 12 and 14, and XL is 16 and 18. It is cut relaxed rather than cropped, by the maker's own description, so the usual size gives an easy drape.

Color-Block Stripes in Summer

Does a knit top feel hot in summer? Less than you would expect. Cotton makes up almost half the yarn, which lets heat out, and the cap sleeves leave the arms open; a breezy evening or an air-conditioned room is where it shines.

What does a notched V-neck look like? A round neckline with a short slit at the center front, a little deeper than a crew and far shallower than a full V. It shows a sliver of skin and suits most face shapes.

Which shorts work with a striped knit top? Denim cutoffs, as in the photos, or plain linen shorts in white or tan. Patterned shorts would fight the stripes.
