The footbed lifts straight out of this one, and that is the reason to choose it. The Men's Vegan Leather Oxford Sneaker with Removable Insole is the only shoe in this range that will take an orthotic or a custom arch support, because the cushioned insole it ships with is not glued down.
Taking the Insole Out
Anyone who wears a prescribed insert knows the usual problem. A dress shoe with a fixed footbed either refuses the orthotic outright or tightens by a full size once it has been forced in. Here the original lifts out and the replacement drops in at the same depth.
It solves a smaller problem for everyone else too. An insole that comes out can be pulled and dried after a long day, which is the single most effective thing anyone does about shoe odor and is impossible on a sealed shoe.
Oxford Shape Sneaker Base
The silhouette is a lace up oxford, with closed lacing, a clean toe and no visible sports detailing, sitting on a rubber sneaker outsole rather than a stacked dress heel. The tongue and collar are padded and the lining is textile, and both of those belong to the sneaker half of the design.
What you get is a shoe that passes at a glance in a room where trainers would not, and stays comfortable through the sort of day when dress shoes stop being funny by mid afternoon. What you do not get is a formal shoe in disguise. Look down and the sole tells the truth.
Offices, Travel and Long Days
Three colors change the register completely. Black comes closest to reading as a dress shoe, cognac lands in smart casual and is the most flexible of the three, and white is a sneaker that has stopped pretending.
Do not buy this for a formal wedding or a black tie event. The outsole is the tell and no amount of care hides it. This is a shoe for the office, the airport, the conference floor and the long walking day, and it is genuinely good at all four.
One Width Three Colors
Fifteen sizes run from 6 to 14 in a single medium D fitting, with half steps through 11.5 and whole numbers after that. All three colors are cut across the same ladder, so choosing a shade never limits the choice of size.
There is no wide fitting, and that matters more here than usual. A padded collar and a textile lining take up interior room that a thin dress lining does not, so a foot sitting at the edge of a D in a conventional oxford will find this snugger rather than roomier. If an E or an EE is your normal answer, this shoe will not accommodate you.
Inserts, Pairing and Cleaning
Will my own orthotic fit inside? Take the supplied insole out first and use it as a template. If your insert is longer or noticeably thicker than the one it replaces, expect to lose a little length, so test it well before an event rather than on the morning of one.
Can this be worn with a suit? With a soft unstructured suit and no tie, the black pair holds up. In a conservative office it reads as a deliberate downgrade, and in a room where everyone else is in leather look oxfords it is the shoe people notice.
How do I clean the white pair? A damp cloth and mild soap on the upper, then a soft brush along the foxing where the sole meets the upper, which is where the gray collects first. Vegan leather takes neither saddle soap nor wax polish and needs neither.
Does it match my sneaker size or my shoe size? It is built on a dress shoe last carrying a sneaker sole rather than the reverse, so it sits closer to your oxford size. Anyone who buys athletic shoes half a size up should not repeat that habit here.
