Formal dresses usually start at extra small and leave anyone smaller to the junior rail. The Cinderella Divine V Neck Tulle Dress with Lace Bodice starts a full band below that at XXS and runs through to 2XL, in six colors, which makes it one of the few short formal dresses that fits a very slight frame without being sold as a children's garment.

The Run Starts at XXS

That band matters more than its position on a list suggests. A 32 inch bust in a dress cut for 34 sits away from the chest at the neckline, and no amount of taking in at the side seams closes a gap at the top of a V.

Six colors reach across the whole run: black, blush, champagne, off white, silver and smoky blue. Black and silver read as evening, blush and champagne as spring, and off white is the one to check against a dress code before ordering.

Lace Bodice Glitter Skirt

The bodice is shaped with princess seams, which run vertically from the shoulder through the waist instead of pinching the fabric into darts. That is what gives a lace bodice a clean curve with no visible fold, and the lace applique is placed along that waist seam so the shaping reads as decoration.

Below it the skirt is layered glitter tulle, cut short and A-line. Thin straps hold the bodice and the back is open to about mid-shoulder-blade, so the dress is worn from the shoulders rather than the waist.

Homecoming and Junior Formals

Homecoming, a winter formal, a damas court, an engagement party and a graduation dinner all take a short A-line without comment. The short hem is what makes it a dance dress rather than a standing-around dress.

It is under-dressed at black tie and it will look it. That code asks for floor length, and lace and glitter do not substitute for it. Anything worded cocktail or semi-formal is comfortably within range.

No Back Adjustment at All

Every figure above is in inches and is taken on the body rather than on the finished garment, so measure the fullest part of the bust, the narrowest part of the waist an inch or two above the navel, and the fullest part of the hips.

There is no cording, no corset and no elastic panel here, so the band you order is the fit you keep. That is the opposite of the advice for a laced dress, where sizing up costs nothing. Order to the bust figure, take the smaller band if you fall between two, and have the side seams let out only if needed. Princess seams carry a usable allowance and are among the easier bodices to adjust.

Skirt Volume and Shoes

How much room does the skirt take up? More than the photographs suggest. Layered tulle holds itself away from the leg, so allow for it in a narrow row of chairs and getting into a car. That volume is also what keeps the hem where it should be while dancing.

What shoes work with a short A-line? The whole leg is on show, so the shoe is a larger part of the look than it would be under a gown. A block heel stays stable on a dance floor; a fine stiletto catches in layered netting and sinks into grass.

Can anything be worn under the open back? Adhesive cups. The opening reaches mid-back and the straps are too narrow to hide a conventional band at the shoulder, so plan for that rather than discovering it while dressing.

Does glitter tulle scratch? The glitter is carried on the outer layers and the netting closest to the leg is plain, so most people feel nothing. Anyone sensitive to texture can wear a plain slip and lose none of the shape.
