Green, teal and rust worn into the canvas like a surface that has been outside for years, printed flat and then cut and hand-stitched. Clochard Grunge is a whole design series, not a one-off colourway, and the idea behind it is weathering: the artwork imitates oxidised metal and faded paint rather than trying to look new, so the pair reads as already lived in on the first day.

Aged On Purpose, And It Stays That Way

  • The wear is printed, not real. The distressing is dyed into the fibre, so unlike a genuinely aged shoe it does not keep degrading from the point you buy it.
  • It sits with clothes you already wear out. A weathered print agrees with faded denim and worn leather in a way a crisp graphic does not.
  • The toe is reinforced. The faux leather cap covers the panel that fails first on any canvas shoe, so real damage lands there rather than on the artwork.

Sole, Lining And Where It Is Made

A 100% polyester canvas upper on an EVA rubber outsole. EVA is foamed rather than solid rubber, so it cushions the step and flexes with the foot while keeping the pair light. The collar is cushioned all the way round, which is what makes the difference on a high top after the second hour. Breathable lining and a soft insole inside, with lacing to the top of the ankle. The blank is sourced from China and the pair is assembled by hand after printing.

The One Thing That Will Ruin Them

Wipe the canvas with a damp cloth and a little soap. Keep the pair out of the washing machine. The print survives; the bonded sole on a hand-built shoe does not.

A glue smell on opening the box is normal and it clears within a few days with the pair left out in open air.

Worn-In Clothes Suit It Best

The muted green and rust palette sits with olive, brown, tan and washed denim rather than against them, which makes this the men's pair that behaves most like a neutral. It is also the one that suits worn-in clothing best: crisp new denim slightly fights a weathered print, while a faded pair agrees with it.

No, It Did Not Arrive Damaged

Is the shoe meant to look old? Yes. The distressed surface is the design, not a manufacturing flaw or a damaged unit. If a clean, box-fresh look is what you are after, a weathered print is the wrong starting point.

Which colour dominates in daylight? The green and teal carry most of the surface, with rust appearing as broken patches through it rather than as an equal third. From a distance the pair reads green.

Will the two shoes be printed the same? No. The design is laid over one continuous panel and cut afterwards, so each shoe takes a different part of the weathering. On this print the variation is part of the effect rather than a flaw in it.

Size Guide

Stand on a sheet of paper and measure heel to longest toe, then match the length below rather than ordering your usual number. Foot length is rounded to the nearest quarter inch, so five pairs of neighboring sizes read the same. If you fall between two, take the larger.
