Product Type: Rings

One slim rectangle of color, laid straight across a wide polished band: this baguette ring is all clean lines. The stone is a 6 by 4 mm baguette, roughly a quarter inch long, in hessonite garnet, amethyst or citrine, and the band is broad enough that the polished metal does as much work as the stone does.

  • Low, notched setting. The baguette sits down in a notch cut into the band rather than up on prongs, so nothing hooks a knit or a coat lining.
  • Three birthstone colors. Garnet is the birthstone for January, amethyst for February and citrine for November.
  • Weighty without bulk. About 4.3 grams (0.15 oz), so the band feels substantial on the finger and still slides under a glove.
  • Sizes 5 to 7. Desiregem makes it in US ring sizes 5, 6 and 7.

Baguette Ring on a Wide Band

A baguette ring usually means a row of tiny diamond rectangles on a wedding band. This one takes a single colored baguette and lets a wide band frame it, which reads modern and a little architectural. In the photographs the band is about as wide as the stone is long, with a high polish on every surface. Desiregem lists the metal as 18K gold plated brass.

The stone runs across the finger, not along it, so it shows its full length every time your hand is flat on a table or wrapped around a cup.

Garnet, Amethyst or Citrine

Desiregem names the three stones as hessonite garnet, amethyst and citrine. Hessonite is the warm member of the garnet family, a cinnamon to brick red that looks almost brown in low light and glows orange in the sun. Amethyst is violet quartz and the one cool color here, so it gives the most contrast against the warm plating. Citrine is honey to orange-yellow quartz and blends closest with the band, which makes it the subtle pick.

If the ring is a birthday present, the month decides it for you. If it is for you, hold your hand next to the sleeve you wear most: warm stones disappear into camel and rust, cool amethyst stands out against them.

Wide Band Ring Fit

A wide band ring fits tighter than a thin one at the same number, because more metal sits against the skin and has to pass over the knuckle. Fingers also swell in hot weather and as the day goes on. Measure in the evening, and if your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the bigger one. The size run tops out at 7, so this band is made for slimmer fingers.

Wearing a Baguette Band Daily

Which finger suits a wide band ring? The middle or index finger, where the band has space on either side. On the ring finger next to an engagement ring a wide band can crowd the setting.

Can a wide band anchor a stack? It is the natural center. Put one thin plain band on each side and keep the three in the same metal color so the baguette stays the focus.

What keeps the stone bright? Wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth. Lotion collects in the corners of a notched setting, so check them after a hand cream day. Plating is a thin layer over the brass, so take the ring off for showers, swimming and hand washing, let lotion and perfume dry before it goes back on, and store it on its own in a dry pouch.
