This boot stands 3.5 inches tall and asks your foot to climb only 2.25 of them. Forever's Camille-86 is a lace-up ankle boot in taupe faux suede, built on a black block heel with a 1.25 inch hidden platform under the forefoot.
- Tall look, moderate pitch. The platform cancels 1.25 inches of heel, leaving a 2.25 inch slope underfoot.
- Block, not spike. The heel is a solid black block, broad from top to floor.
- Taupe against black. A soft neutral upper over a dark heel, which ties it to black tights and coats.
- Laced up the front. You decide how closely the shaft holds your ankle.
The Math of a Hidden Platform
Heel height tells you how tall you will stand. Pitch, the difference between heel and platform, tells you how the boot will feel. Here that is 3.5 minus 1.25, or 2.25 inches: the slope of a mid heel under the look of a high one. Because the platform is wrapped in the same taupe as the upper, nobody notices it; they see a long leg and a chunky heel. It is the honest shortcut for anyone who likes height and has stopped enjoying steep shoes.
Taupe Booties With Jeans and Dresses
Taupe sits between gray and brown, so it bridges cool and warm outfits alike. With jeans, a cropped or cuffed hem that ends where the laces begin shows the boot off. With dresses, the platform balances heavier fall fabrics such as sweater knits, corduroy and wool. The black heel makes black tights the obvious match, and the lacing adds enough detail that the rest of the outfit can stay plain.
Camille-86 Sizes and Lacing
Forever lists Camille-86 as true to size. It is made in US women's 5 to 10 with half sizes up to 8.5, so a 9.5 orders the 10. Man-made uppers do not stretch with wear, so the fit on day one is the fit you keep. Lace firmly across the instep to stop your heel lifting, and leave the last inch of lacing a little easier so the ankle can move. A thin sock suits the shape better than a thick one, since the toe is closed and the suede sits close.
Platforms, Taupe and Cold Days
Are platform boots easier to walk in than regular heels? For the same height, usually yes, because the platform lowers the slope your foot stands on. The trade is a stiffer sole, so you roll through each step a little less. A block heel adds stability on top of that.
What color is taupe? A gray-brown neutral. Forever calls this shade beige taupe, which puts it on the lighter, warmer side of the family. It goes with black, gray, cream, navy and denim, and it is one of the few boot colors that flatters both silver and gold jewelry.
Can you wear suede booties in winter? On dry, cold days they are ideal with tights and wool. Keep faux suede out of slush and road salt, which mark any napped surface, and brush it once it is dry if it does get caught.
