Skirt Suit

Of all the two-piece shapes, the skirt suit still carries the most formal register, which is why it survives in courtrooms, at interviews and at weddings where a dress would read as too soft. The pairing works because the blazer supplies structure at the shoulder while the skirt keeps the line clean below the waist, so the outfit reads deliberate from across a room. Decide the hem and the heel together rather than separately, since the skirt length that works with a low heel is rarely the one that works with a high one.
