The useful part of a matched set is that the clip fits the ring. Leash clips and harness D-rings are not standardized, and a heavy trigger clip on a small harness ring either will not close or sits at an angle that wears the ring flat over a season. Bought together the two are specified for each other, which removes a compatibility question most people do not know exists until it fails.
